STARGAZING WITH INDIG0
STARGAZING WITH INDIG0
INDIG0 HAS A KNACK FOR CREATING VISUALS THAT INSTANTLY EASE THE MIND AND SOOTHE THE SOUL. PART EYE-CANDY, PART ETHEREAL PORN, HER WORK UNSWERVINGLY TRANSFERS YOUR MIND TO THAT TRANSIENT STATE WHERE NOTHING REALLY MATTERS AND TIME STANDS STILL.
What made you decide to showcase your art under a pseudonym?
I guess I wanted my audience to appreciate my art for itself and not for me. I wanted the focus to be entirely on the art.
Your work has a spiritual quality to it. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?
As a kid I was quite in tune with the spiritual side of myself, but growing up I somehow started forgetting who I was and ended up being a stranger to myself to be honest. I was living this 9-5 life and every bit of my body and mind was rebelling against it all. One day I just had enough and decided to start doing what feels right.
Some believe that art is a form of spirituality. What’s your take on that?
I find art to be the most genuine expression of oneself and one’s spirit, so yes I find art to bevery spiritual.
You’ve described your art as a depiction of the “eternal”. Do you believe in eternity?
Yes, I believe in eternity even though it’s somystified and we tend to have a very peculiargrasp on it. I absolutely believe that it is only our false sense of being superior to all other life forms that prevents us from seeing the big picture – there is the ground, the plant, an animal that eats the plant only to be eaten by a human, we humans get buried in that same ground to serve as food for that same plant etc. It’s a bit of anoversimplification but you get the idea.
If you had to choose between eternal life on Earth or the Afterlife, which one would you choose?
Eternal life here on Earth. I love life even though Ihave a love/hate relationship with it.
You often depict the universe in your composition. What have the laws of the Universe taught you the most?
They taught me to remain calm and not to lose my head over anything.
You’ve said you have a slight obsession with beautifying things. Where does this need for beauty come from?
I’ve always had this need to make the things around me the way I see them beautiful!
As a prominent artist on Instagram, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the platform and why?
There are so many advantages like being able to have very close relationships with people who appreciate my art, getting to know my fellow artists and many like- minded people! Compared to all the above, the disadvantages are simplyinsignificant to me, if any.
Your Instagram page is very personal. You share a lot of yourself, from inspirational quotes, to the music you listen to, to pictures of your dog Masha... Why is it important for you as an artist to share so much of yourself on Instagram?
I share everything that helps people understand what makes me who I am and what inspires my art. I also love supporting other artists and sharing their unique visions of the world with my audience.
Many artists who post their work on Instagram suffer from theft. Have you ever felt like your work was plagiarized?
Not really... I understand that my art inspires others to get into this beautiful world of self expression that is art. I love it when people use different mediums to recreate my artworks.
Do you believe that bigger measures should be taken to avoid such situations?
The only thing that I deem useful for all people creating their own content is, making everyone who repost it, credit the authors properly.
Do you ever do commercial work? If so, do you approach it differently?
Yes, but I try to be in charge of the creative process as much as possible, otherwise I feel like a tool so to speak and not an artist.
What is the best part about being a multi-disciplinary artist?
Being able to share a big part of my inner worldwith other people means a lot to me, since I am quite introverted.
What’s next for Indig0?
Definitely animation. I believe that is the best way Iwill be able to fully express myself.
