JSHMCK - THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE
THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?
Minimal in design, bold with seductive curves, squiggles and carefully selected vibrant colors taken from past decades. My work features strong compositions and optimistic vibes.
WHAT DO YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS FOCUS ON?
This depends on whether I am working for a commission or doing personal work. Generally I focus my work on people having fun. My work is colorful and playful and the characters I use are the same - leisurely characters, sassy ladies up to no good, or people enjoying a glass of wine.
WHAT TRIGGERS YOUR IMAGINATION?
It can come from anything. I take inspiration from the 1980s particularly the amazing Memphis art movement, I love the patterns and color schemes andtrytofeedthemintomyownwork.Ialsolike to read interesting articles about current affairs, new technology and interesting happenings, which keeps my imagination active.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
East London.
WHEN DID YOU JOIN INSTAGRAM?
November 2010.
HOW DID IT MAKE YOUR WORK EVOLVE?
Seeing many of my favorite artists work on Instagram is great inspiration for me and it leads
to finding out what inspires them by seeing who they choose to follow and what photos they like. It’s a great way to discover new talents.
WHO ARE THE PEOPLE YOU WORKED WITH?
I have recently been published in this year's Wired World, and have other clients including Pentagram NY, Wall Street Journal, Create London, Ace & Tate and Noble Rot.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU POST?
Every2-3days. Toooftencanbeabit overwhelming for some.
WHAT ACCOUNT DO YOU FOLLOW RELIGIOUSLY?
@saraandreasson - I love her work.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST LIKED ARTWORK/ PHOTO?
I’ve just finished an image in response to a £4 billion investment by TFL for safer roads in London, including separated cycle highways and pedestrian roundabouts. As a cyclist I can really appreciate investments like these.
WHAT ARE YOUR LATEST OR FUTURE PROJECTS/ COLLABORATIONS?
There are talks of a collaboration with a popular online platform that I’m really excited about.
