ZAHERSARA - INSTAGRAM'S POP PRINCESS
INSTAGRAM'S POP PRINCESS
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?
Loud, playful, aggressive, and sometimes critical.
WHAT DOES YOUR ART FOCUS ON?
I choose not to limit myself to a specific theme, but overall the medium and the process is the same. I use digital collage and/or photo manipulation as a way to create a new narrative from familiar images.
WHAT TRIGGERS YOUR IMAGINATION?
Everything I’m exposed to an a daily basis. It could be anything from politics, social media, CI documentaries, space, Martin Scorsese films- basically all that lies under the holy umbrella of popular culture.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
Currently I’m based in Sydney, Australia.
WHEN DID YOU JOIN INSTAGRAM?
I joined Instagram in the summer of 2013, but I started posting my own artwork February of this year as a supporting visual portfolio.
HOW DID IT MAKE YOUR WORK EVOLVE?
The exposure and accessibility of the platform opened a lot of creative doors through contacts I would not have made before. Now I’m working on exciting freelance projects- while selling some of my art prints on the side.
WHO DO YOU COLABORATE WITH?
At the moment I’m creating work for digital agencies, zines, and assisting set direction for an editorial shoot.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU POST?
I try to post once a day if I have time, otherwise three to four posts a week. I realized that the idea for a post is usually creatively stronger when it’s not rushed.
WHAT ACCOUNTS
RELIGIOUSLY?
@plastikmagazine, @taxcollection, @artsxdesign, @sainthoax and @love.watts
WHAT IS YOUR MOST LIKED ARTWORK/ PHOTO?
So far it's the Sweet Kiss collage that was inspired by a kitschy poster I saw in China Town. Overall, the more simple an image, the more positive the reaction. I guess this all has to do with our attention span when it comes to social media - less is always more when you have five seconds to communicate.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Frank Sinatra to Rihanna and all the musical shades in between.
WHAT ARE YOUR LATEST PROJECTS OR COLLABORATIONS?
Lately, I’ve been mostly freelancing and getting in touch with different art fairs to exhibit side projects I’ve been working on.
